About Me

Technically, I’m trained as a civil engineer, born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. I’m somewhere between Gen Z and Millennial I guess.

I’m also Black.

None of the above facts are important. However, if this space serves its intended purpose, it will probably be evident that all are true.

Mission: To explore the lesser known stories behind this city.

I created this space in order to properly give Chicago its due – in a way that:

  1. Avoids highly sensationalized and exaggerated topics that get old fast.

If you’re from Chicago, you’ve heard the story of the cow that allegedly kicked over the lantern to start the Great Chicago Fire. Or how the first nuclear reaction demonstration took place at University of Chicago. While these historical narratives are interesting, it does an injustice to the citizens of Chicago and their complex and intricate lives and heritage to continue telling the same parts of history over and over. There is so much that happens between these stories.

  1. Create a Chicago blog that isn’t centered on capital.

Because capitalism sucks and ruins everything. Most blogs point to restaurants and spaces based on commissions. And the result is just a list of places that paid to be on the list. That’s bottom tier.

  1. Isn’t centered on tourists.

As tourists often prefer the quickest summary of a city. So many blogs on the internet today focus on the same touristy, overpriced spots of an area. Contrary to popular belief, the best food places or places to visit AREN’T usually conveniently located within walking distance from a downtown hotel or your terminal at O’hare

While these stories are interesting, it does an injustice to the citizens of Chicago and their complex and intricate lives and heritage to continue telling the same stories over and over. There is so much that happens between and behind these stories.

Explore this blog to discover the  not-so-popular sides of our city.
